Comeback Breaks Panthers Drought
Surrey Park Football ClubSurrey Park opened it's account for the 2008 season with an emphatic come from behind victory over Ferntree Gully on Saturday at Surrey Park.

Trailing all day the Panthers booted 3 goals 8 behinds in the final quarter to down Ferntree Gully by 14 points Surrey Park 13.13 (91) to 11.11 (77).

Not only was it Surrey's first win of the season, it was there first since Round 12 of the 2007 season.

It was also a special day for the club as they were celebrating it's past players in recognition of their services to all 3 clubs - SURREY HILLS, EAST CAMBERWELL & SURREY PARK.

Phil Carruthers was a standout in the ruck and took out the special 150 year commemorative medal as best on ground as voted by all umpires involved in the match.
Bryan Vance continued his great form with another 4 goals, while Daniel Watts booted 3 in return from injury.
Adrian Kelly was superb in the midfield as was Chris Starritt & Daniel Vance but what was most pleasing for coach Adam Rossoukas was the efforts of his younger players. "I thought young Drew Howlett on the wing, Newhouse & Hollingsworth were just great for us today, they backed themselves at every opportunity and grew as they game went on!"

Rossoukas tried a different approach to the game by placing the entire responsibility for preparation to the players.
"The boys drived the whole day today, they knew what they wanted to achieve, set the goals and got the result and for a coach it was just sensational to have full confidence & commitment out of our leaders and group!"

The song was sung with great gusto and joy and could be heard for miles!
